QCE is founded on our beliefs that:-
Work-winning is the lifeblood of any construction company – it is the key business function
High-quality, accurate information is the foundation of good business decision-making
To this end, we believe that the principles of good estimating are:-
The production of the most-accurate nett cost possible – through attention to detail and a thorough understanding of ‘first principles’ pricing
A practical and innovative approach – to construction method, to choice of materials, to meeting and exceeding the needs of the end-client
The identification and quantification of risk and opportunity – the heart of the tender adjudication process
At QCE, we know that we operate in a deadline-driven industry where tender information is often less than perfect – we also understand the need to meet these deadlines without compromising on quality.
We’re happy to beaver away on the grunt work but we’ll also stay fully connected with you throughout the process – from establishing a win-strategy at the outset, right through to adjudicating the tender on the day before submission (and carrying out a full formal handover to your contracts team once the job’s been won).
Whether you require our services for an important one-off tender or are looking to supplement your estimating function for the longer term, QCE is proud to provide our clients with a tailored professional service that aims to secure good-quality work at the right price and at the right margin.

Nigel Jones has been in the construction industry since leaving school nearly three decades ago, first acquiring his measurement and cost planning skills at a firm of chartered quantity surveyors. He then gained several years’ experience as a contracts manager for a local main contractor working on a number of award-winning projects, particularly in the heritage and education sectors. After working in speculative residential development and as director of a specialist joinery sub-contractor, Nigel’s practical experience, attention to detail and appreciation of risk / opportunity has brought considerable success for a number of companies that have utilised his estimating skills. If he’s not pricing a tender, Nigel is generally to be found at the wheel of ‘Dad’s Taxi’ and, for his sins, is cursed to be a follower of Nottingham Forest until his dying day !
Alasdair Belton has been involved in the construction and development sectors for nearly twenty years, having worked in commercial roles for a design & build contractor, a local speculative residential developer and a specialist joinery sub-contractor. After overseeing a number of social housing projects for local housing associations, Alasdair was instrumental in the planning, financing, construction and sales of a £4 million ten-plot luxury farmyard development in Great Casterton and took the leading pre-construction role in Places For People’s 64-unit mixed-tenure housing scheme at Brandon. As well as development appraisals and cost planning, Alasdair’s measurement and ‘first principles’ estimating skills are enhanced by several years’ practical and managerial experience on large supply-&-fix carpentry contracts and internal fit-outs. Alasdair has strong IT skills and is a keen Conquest user (as well as enjoying photography, fine dining and the odd glass of wine !).
